7/11/11 – Leavenworth Wedding

Yes, we have been M.I.A. recently and we apologize. But with the big news out in the open it’s back to some summer updates!

After the fun weekend on the island, it was off to Leavenworth for the wedding of Liz, one of Amy’s MIT Classmates. We used the opportunity to get in some time with Matt, Janelle, and Camille at the same time. Janelle’s aunt was generous enough to let us use her cabin for the weekend so we met in the mountains on Friday night for some Bavarian fun! We enjoyed the beautiful setting and fun downtown shops, walked the arts fair, ate some good food and practiced our Austrian accents.

The wedding on Saturday evening was beautiful and we were honored to be invited. The setting of the green mountains and bright blue sky could not have been better.

And the newest McWeaver will be…

Amy and I are so excited! We had a great ultrasound appointment and are happy to report and healthy and active little baby on its way in January. Now if only I knew where to shop for football gear…

8/5/11 – What is our baby?

We have a few posts to catch up on, but we also have an important question. Is our baby going to be a boy or a girl? Now is your opportunity to weigh in and then tune in Wednesday evening when we will know for sure!

7/4/11 – Elvis Beta IV

It is time to celebrate America’s birthday and that can only mean one thing…the Annual Elvis Beta Kubb Tournament on San Juan Island! Friday afternoon, Amy, Todd, Copper and I piled into Todd’s car packed to the gills with food, tents, pillows, and dog treats.

We made great time and were some of the first in line for our 4:45 boat direct to Friday Harbor. We enjoyed some time on the beach with toasted bagels before the boat arrived. In passage we ran into Ethan and got to meet his lovely girlfriend Liz with whom we instantly fell in love. We arrived at Jack and Heidi’s just in time for delicious pizza to be coming out of the oven. There was much catching up and a few practice games of Kubb before bed.

The next day the tournament began in earnest. It was a strong field of players this year. The rebuilt Åsa stadium was in excellent condition and the weather was absolutely perfect. Jesse Snyder treated us to delicious pulled pork that he roasted all day long. Everyone enjoyed taking turns playing their matches, score keeping, spectating, kayaking on the lake, and soaking up the sun. The day ended with a rousing demonstration of Jack’s favorite pastime, birdball. This “sport” includes using a dog chuck-it to hurl moldy limes at a dead snag tree in an attempt to get the lime into a woodpecker hole. Everyone took turns hurling limes, falling down, and laughing hysterically.

Sunday the tournament came to its climatic ending with Ethan beating me soundly in the final match. The tournament was filled with upsets and great matches. Elvis Beta would have been very proud. That night we had a special treat as our good friends Laura and Dave happened to be camping just across the lake! They made the short hike to come visit and hang out for the night. We introduced them to Kubb and enjoyed a fire and s’mores.

Monday we had more excitement as Marc McEchran and his family joined us on the island along with his new fiancée Jamie! It was so good to see Gracie, Josten and Clara. They are growing quickly and are all flourishing. It was our first opportunity to meet Jamie and her parents and they are very kind people. We are so thankful that Marc has found companionship, he truly deserves it. After another fun-filled day we made the slow trek back to the ferry and the long journey home. All of us were exhausted (none more so than Copper) and were so happy to be back in our own beds after a wonderful weekend of family.

6/26/11 – Naches, WA

It was a fun-filled weekend for the McWeavers. Friday night we were honored to attend the beautiful and intimate wedding of our friends Jay and Melissa. It was held in downtown Seattle at Hotel 1000. Plenty of friends, family, and laughter made it a great celebration.

Saturday morning we packed up the car and headed for Naches, WA to attend the baptism of Jace and Trey. The weather was stunning and the drive over was just gorgeous. Stephanie’s parents, Ron and Marcia, hosted us at their beautiful ranch home and we enjoyed all it had to offer. We ran out into the field to greet the new ponies, we rode the RTV and really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Both the boys were on their best behavior for the baptism ceremony and made us all proud.

Finally Sunday, we raced back to Seattle in time for a 2-1 Sounders victory. What a weekend indeed!

6/25/11 – McWeavers Plus One!

It is with extremely full hearts that we get to share this exciting news…

we are having a baby!

Amy just entered her second trimester (13th week) and is doing great. She has been battling serious nausea, but it seems to be letting up and we are hoping it is gone completely for the next 6 months. Our due date is January 5th so we have another holiday baby on the way. We have had a couple ultra sounds and all signs are looking good. Stay tuned in August when we will find out if it is a baby boy or a baby girl joining our family this winter.

We feel so blessed and want to thank everyone for their love and excitement in our news.

6/12/11 – Graduation

It was time to celebrate in the McWeaver household…Amy’s graduation day! After 5 quarters, 73 credits, 17 classes and 17 A’s on her report card Amy was ready to get her hands on her diploma.

Family gathered from near and far to join the SU grads at KeyArena. Amy was honored with the St. Ignatius Award going to the top student in her cohort so she led all the MIT students into the arena and was amongst the first names called. The Weavers, McKennas, Cochrans, Paulsons, and Moores went crazy!

Then we gathered on our rooftop deck for some sandwiches and beverages. The weather turned on us a bit, but we still got in a nice visit and helped Amy feel like a Master’s Graduate! Congratulations Amy we are so proud of you.

Happy Mousekaters

Mickey here we come!

To celebrate my master’s graduation my mom, John, and I headed south for some fun in the California sun! We had an amazing trip. We flew down on Monday at the crack of dawn…literly. I may have gotten a little over zealous booking our plane tickets. We had to get up at 3:45am to catch our 6am flight. However, after a thrilling shuttle ride from the LAX airport we arrived to the glorious Grand Californian Hotel to be greeted with warm welcomes and kindness.  We had luggage checked, a room check-in by 3pm, and had changed our clothes for the warm weather by 10AM.

We went straight into Disneyland and immediately saw Mary Poppins and Burt! The park was beautiful, my mom and I loved the flowers. We heard a rumor that Disney’s new Star Tours adventure was previewing so we bolted straight for Tomorrowland and obtained a fastpass for the new Star Tours ride. We were ecstatic! Next we rode Buzz Lightyear and then headed over to Fronteerland to ride Big Thunder before they closed it the rest of the week. All three of us piled into one train car with Mom in the middle and away we went! The last ride of the day was the Fast Passed Star Tours ride. The ride is incredible and if we could have we would have ridden it about 20 times in a row. They have re-done the ride to make it 3D and added some great variability to the experience. Your “tour” is broken into four parts and they have several versions of each part so you can ride the attraction over and over with different destinations and combinations each time. At the beginning a robot scanned our ship and John’s picture appeared as a rebel spy on board our tour! It was great to see the classic upgraded so well.

We enjoyed so many more magic moments throughout the day, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, dinner at House of Blue with a warm cookie pizza for dessert! The grand finale was having reserved dessert seatting for Fantasmic. It was awesome! Disney has made some updates to this classic and they do not disappoint.

The week rolled by at a wonderful pace. We spent at least two hours or more a day by the swimming pool. We played hard at both Disneyland and Califorina Adventure. Disneyland was looking really good. They magically changed the flower beds overnight while we were there! Main Street was decorated for Memorial Day and people were happy. California Adventure was under a lot of construction. They are building an additional land for “Cars”, redoing the main entrance to the park (the CALIFORNIA on the outside is gone), they are also rebuilding the main interior enterance to represent Holleywood of the 1920s. I am looking forward to seeing the park with the construction is completed.

An exciting note they have connected the Backlot by the Tower of Terror to the backend of Bugs Life Land. Thus, you can now cut through quickly to get back to the Warf area.

Other major trip highlights were:

  • Seeing the new World of Color water and laster light show
  • Getting a sneak peak ride for the new Star Tours ride.
  • Seeing the Captain EO 3D movie
  • The new daytime Disney Parade (Amazing!)
  • The Grand Californian hotel pool
  • Being given two fastpasses for Splash Mountain from complete strangers
  • Pin trading
  • Riding Toy Story three times and John getting a blister from playing so hard
  • The incredible, amazing firework show at Disneyland….They make more than just tinkerbell fly!

The most amazing thing we experienced though was getting to ride the new little mermaid ride in California Adventure. It was awesome! It is an “old school” anamatronic slow moving disney ride. You hope onto a seashell and away you go! I don’t want to give away the details so that it is magic for everyone BUT those guests who waited in the THREE HOUR line would still feel satisfied. Great job once again Disney!

5/18/11 – 5/21/11 Family Time

Mama Weaver had an extended visit to Seattle to help watch her newest grand baby Camille while Janelle settled back into work. We got lots of visiting and hugs in while she was in town. We took her to two rainy Sounders games, shared many breakfasts, lunches and dinners and caught a movie. We also celebrated Amy’s graduation with an amazing meal at Daniel’s on Lake Union. Dad Weaver was in town for the weekend to join in the fun.

We also managed some Paulson family time as Grama Kris joined us with the Paulson boys at the zoo! It was a bit of a cloudy day but that didn’t stop us from having a great time. The meerkats were meer-kute! We also enjoyed some time at the little play area where Jace made some great “little-while” friends.

5/5/11 – Happy Birthday Dad!

Happy Birthday Dad!

We were lucky to get to see my Dad the day before he and Heidi flew out to Paris for an overseas adventure. We went to Tutta Bella, sat in the upstairs part of their restaurant and ate yummy pizza. Jesse enlighted us that the reason he looked so healthy and handsome was due to his new GTL look.  The Situation better watch out.
